The House of Lords Committee HIV Report

By Wendy Alam, 7th September 2011

1)The House of Lords Committee HIV Report: The House of Lords report, released to coincide with the 25th anniversary of 1986s ‘Don’t Die of ignorance,’ says HIV remains one of the most serious public health issues facing the government. Key recommendations in the report include:
·A nationwide campaign on a similar scale to those on the 1980s.
·More work to tackle risky sexual behaviour.
·More spending on prevention work.
·Testing all new patients at GPs surgeries.

2) The LGF launch a new Condom and Lube Distribution Pack
The new Condom & Lube Distribution Scheme pack was launched at Manchester Pride 2011, and carries the LGF’s HIV Status campaign on every pack. This creates an important link between the Condom & Lube Scheme, and the importance of accessing HIV testing services.
The aim of the new pack is to:
•Contribute towards combating HIV stigma.
•Increase knowledge of HIV status amongst gay and bisexual men
•Promote the importance of testing
•Increase awareness of LGF “Know Your HIV Status” campaign, and access to condoms and lube.
This Condom & Lube pack is distributed across Greater Manchester, in gay bars and community settings.
For your information, I’ve attached an image of the condom and lube pack (which includes our testing campaign) plus a briefing sheet.
