Job Description

This is a 0.2 FTE post reporting to Professor Rebecca Harris (RDS NW Public Health Lead) to support building RDS capacity and strengthen NIHR public health research proposals through advice, training and awareness raising. They will work within the RDS infrastructure and alongside other RDS Advisers.

The post is available for 12 months, with a review for extension until 30th September 2023.

Salary (or if secondment the reimbursement to the employer) would be dependent on experience, but most probably at Grade 7.

Person Specification

Essential criteria

• Exisiting links with staff working in public health in the NHS, local government or Public Health England and understanding of the challenges of undertaking research in a public health context.
• Expertise and understanding of public health research methods and approaches

Desirable criteria

• Postgraduate experience of public health research demonstrated by lead authorship of publications and grant income
• Postgraduate training and/or qualification in Public Health
• Knowledge of the NIHR PHR programme


Responsibilities:

1. Assisiting with developing NW RDS support for pubic health research alongside the NW Public Health lead and RDS management team

2. Developing and maintaining relationships, and contributing to building partnerships with staff in the NHS, local government and Public Health England to raise awareness of NIHR PHR commissioned calls and to develop relevant training needs and communications and support materials.

3. Contributing to development of written and on-line resources relating to Public Health research. These to be housed in a dedicated Public Health space on the RDS NW website which will be maintained and regularly updated

4. Providing formal training and support on Public Health research to RDS case managers regionally.

5. Providing specialist support and advice on Public Health for RDS case managers and/or clients as/when appropriate

6. Keeping up to date with requirements of funding bodies with regard to Public Health research (particularly NIHR funding programmes)

7. Contributing as appropriate to RDS engagement events and support programmes organised for North West researchers.

8. Attending, where required, national events, such as meetings of the national RDS community of practice for Public Health

9. Contributing to raising awareness locally, regionally and nationally of the NIHR RDS NW and the ways in which it supports Public Health research

10. Contributing to the promotion of NW RDS eg. contributing to requests for information for newsletters, website.
